ROLE Project was present at the 11th International Conference on Knowledge Management and Knowledge Technologies (i-KNOW Conference) that took place from 6-9 September in Graz, Austria.
Numerous fruitful talks took place at the ROLE stand in the i-Exhibition area, where ROLE Project members demonstrated and discussed ROLE prototypes, frameworks and achievements so far. We were very pleased to notice, that some conference participants showed a vivid interest in joining ROLE Project and registered for the ROLE Alliance Programme on the spot. Next to that, ROLE Project Members, Gabriela Thomasova (ZSI) and Felix Mödritscher (WU Vienna), together with Natalia Müler (IMC) have presented ROLE Showcase Platform and ROLE Widget Store at the Scientific Poster & Demo Session that took place on the second day of the conference.
Furthermore, Felix Mödritscher has delivered a presentation on “Generating Local Top-N Reccomendations for Personal Learning Environments” that was tested within the ROLE Project. Moreover, Ralf Klamma together with Dominik Renzel (RWTH Aachen) led workshop on Multimedia on the Web. Alexander Nussbaumer and Marcel Berthold (TU Graz) have also visited ROLE stand and supported us with their presence. Captivating presentations, pleasant atmosphere and delicious catering contributed to the overall well-being of the conference participants including ROLE Project members.
The conference dealt with the latest developments in the Knowledge Management field with many interesting presentations, among others key notes from Daniel Keim (Visual Analytics), Gloria Mark (Multitasking in the Information Age) and Christian Dirschl (Semantic Web problematic from the point of view of legal publisher).
I-KNOW 2011 was the first year of the conference with special awards that were honoured to the best papers in both tracks of the conference i-KNOW and i-SEMANTICS. Outstanding paper award has been handed over to Martin J. Eppler and Roland Pfister for their paper “Sketching as a Tool for Knowledge Management: An Interdisciplinary Literature Review on its Benefits” in i-know track and to Pablo N. Mendes, Max Jakob, Andrés García-Silva, Christian Bizer for their paper “DBpedia Spotlight: Shedding Light on the Web of Documents” in the i-semantics track.
